A. Umpiring Rules
1. Darts hitting any blue lines in the center and not touching any white space, shall be called “no dart”. Darts hitting any blue lines and breaking an equal amount of white on both sides shall be called a “no dart”. Darts hitting any part of the line and penetrating a portion of white on one side, decision shall be made to favor the white side penetrated. Darts hitting any part of the line and penetrating a portion of white on both sides, decision shall be made to favor the side penetrating the most white. All darts must be called only after the Umpire pulls the dart from the board and inspects the hole. Upon pulling a dart, the umpire will make the call, and if the umpire feels he erred after making such call, he can do one of the following:
a. Reverse the decision as long as the decision favors the batter.
Example: Umpire calls line dart and after pulling dart discovers it is actually a hit or a ball, etc. He may change his decision as long as it favors the batter.
b. He cannot reverse a decision which was made against his own team. Example: Umpire calls single and after pulling dart discovers it was actually a line dart or an out. He cannot change his call against batter’s favor.
2. The decision of the umpire is final. No appeals will be allowed.
3. Umpire must stand a safe distance from the side of the board. A mark may be made to govern this distance, if home team so desires. Any player who throws a dart before an umpire is back at a safe distance shall be given a warning. A second offense by the same player and he will be called out. A third offense by the same player and he will banished from that game. Substitution is allowed.
4. If one umpire is in doubt about calling a play, the other umpire from the other team, may be called upon to assist in the decision. The umpire who requested assistance is responsible for making the final call. No player may leave his position to argue any umpiring decision.
5. A different umpire should be used for each game of the night, if possible.
6. Umpires’ names are to be recorded on the scoresheets.
7. Teams must register a minimum of three umpires at the beginning of each season.
8. New umpires must attend an umpiring clinic prior to umpiring league games.
